Install Mozilla Firefox

Smart View requires Mozilla Firefox ESR, or the most recent version of Firefox. Follow these steps to determine the current  version of Firefox installed, install Firefox ESR or the latest Firefox version, and enable popups.

 

The sections below contain the steps to perform the following tasks:

 

Find the Mozilla Firefox Version

The steps below determine the Firefox version currently installed on your computer.

Check your computer’s programs to ensure Firefox is installed.

 

Note: If Firefox is not installed, submit a Service Desk Ticket. See Submit a Service Desk Ticket later in this guide for steps.

 

Note: When opening Firefox for the first time, you may be prompted to create a Firefox account. This is not necessary.

Open Firefox.
Click the Menu button.

At the bottom of the menu items, click the Help button.  The Help menu slides in.

From the Help menu, click About Firefox.  The About Mozilla Firefox screen appears.

If this is the About page you see, then no further steps are required.  
 
If you see another version, ensure you have the most recent version and continue with the installation steps below.  Older Firefox versions will not support Oracle.

Install Mozilla Firefox ESR

Follow the steps below to download and install Mozilla Firefox ESR.  You may install a later version of Firefox, but earlier versions will not support Oracle.

Copy and paste the following URL into your browser's address bar:
URL:  https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/
 
Press the Enter key.

On the Firefox ESR screen, click Download Firefox ESR.
 
Additionally, users may install the latest version of Firefox to get the functionality needed for Oracle.  It is important to follow these instructions to select the setting needed once Firefox is installed.

On the Download Firefox Extended Support Release in your language screen, scroll to the Search languages field, and enter English.

Find the Windows 32-bit version and click Download.

When the Opening Firefox Setup screen appears, click Save File.
 
The download process may take a few minutes.

When done, click the Firefox browser's Download button.

In the Open File - Security Warning window, click Run.

In the Mozilla Firefox Setup window, click Standard
 
Click Next.

If Firefox is currently open, you will see a Close message.
  • Close all open Firefox windows.
  • Click OK.  
  • The Setup Type window reappears.
  • Click Next on the window (see image above).

Click Finish or Upgrade

The Installing Progress window appears.

When the installation is complete, the Finish window displays.  
Click Finish.  
 
If you have the Launch Firefox Now option marked, Firefox opens.  
 
Continue with the steps in the next section to enable Firefox popups.

Enable Firefox Pop-ups

Oracle uses pop-up windows for input forms and other tasks.  Follow the steps below to enable pop up windows for only the Oracle Cloud instances (environments).  Repeat these steps each time Firefox updates are installed.

Open Mozilla Firefox.

In the upper right corner of the browser, click the Menu button.  
 
The options window pops up giving access to the options available in Firefox.

Click the Content tab.
 
In the Pop-ups section:
  • Check the Block pop-up windows option.
  • Click Exceptions.
 
The Allowed Sites- Pop-ups window displays.

Enter the web site address (URL) for the Oracle Cloud instance you use.  The URL is located in the Oracle Survival Guide.
  • Copy the web site address (URL) in the Survival Guide.
  • In the Address of Website field, past the URL.
  • Click Allow.  The address moved to the list below.
  • Click Save Changes.

 

if you use multiple Oracle instances, repeat these steps using the other Oracle URL(s).

 

Close all Firefox tabs and restart it for the changes to take effect.
